Studying medicine doesn’t mean you have all the answers about your career. As a medical student it is not as straightforward as some people would think. You have a number of key decisions to make along the way and finding the right path requires careful thought and planning, as well as accessing accurate, up-to-date information and advice.

CUCOM is one of the only medical schools to have a Office of Career Guidance and Development (OCGD) for medical students. The Center provides one-on-one career coaching and resources to help medical students make informed decisions and plan their medical school years and beyond. Career advising is available on an individual basis and through a variety of programs, workshops, and specialty student interest groups. Career advising is also provided by OCGD advisors and through the AAMC-sponsored Careers in Medicine Planning Program.

The OCGD is designed to assist medical students in their pursuit of obtaining postgraduate residencies and postgraduate opportunities. Complete information on examination requirements, clinical timeline guidance, and obtaining postgraduate training is provided to help students navigate the residency application process.

Going through medical school is not only grueling, but also involves a steep financial investment. Many students may find themselves struggling to keep up with the pressure of being a doctor during their USMLE/FMGE preparation.
