The Role of Basic Science in Medical Education
2 YEARS IN SAINT LUCIA
CUCOM has an integrated, systems-based curriculum that parallels the training you would receive at a top US medical school. This curriculum, in collaboration with our excellent faculty (all of whom have either an MD or a PhD in the field they teach), small class sizes and a focused emphasis on preparing you for Step 1 of the USMLE, will set you on the best course possible to becoming a doctor.
The foundation of our MD program is the first 2 years of Basic Science. This part of the MD degree curriculum takes place on our academic campus on the Saint Lucia.
At the completion of your Basic Science studies, you will take your first – and in some ways most important – licensing exam, the USMLE Step 1. CUCOM will work closely with you to create an individual academic plan for passing this important test.

An Integrated Approach
Through CUCOM enhanced 2 year organ-system-based modular curriculum, you will learn how the physiological, anatomical, and biochemical processes of each organ system work together simultaneously, providing you with an integrated view of human health in biomedical, clinical and community health contexts.
An active learning model designed to keep you engaged and promote learning, includes small group sessions and team-based learning with access to:
- Anatomical Sciences and Medical Imaging facility.
- Simulation Lab.
- Standardized patient and interview skills training room.
- Patient examination rooms with A/V links to classrooms.
